This second cast recording of Your People Are Mine (the first having been completed in Israel in the late 1970s, soon after the premiere of the show in Jerusalem), features four leading cantors/cantorial soloists from the Tampa Bay area as well as a full cast of outstanding singer/performers from Tampa/St. Petersburg. Cantorial soloists Sharon Reaboi, Colman Reaboi, Joy Katzen-Guthrie, and Cantor Shimon Gewirtz (co-author of the book and music) lead the cast, with additional performances by Cary Reich, Suzanne Rae Lewis, Bonnie Whitehurst, Shoshana Shay, and John Conte.
Composer Gladys Gewritz-Hedaya and her brother Cantor Shimon Gewirtz completed this musical that was staged professionally in Jerusalem, partly sponsored by the Government Tourist Bureau of Israel for almost 12 years, during which time the show also toured in New York with a traveling cast. The show and the delightful songs on this CD reflect a modern look into the age-old Book of Ruth, with fresh insights into the characters of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. Through midrashic sources, rabbinical commentaries, feminist writings and their own imagination, the creators have brought to life the personalities of the biblical tale of Ruth, creating a contemporary story of enduring love, faith, and devotion.
Joy Katzen-Guthrie appears as Naomi on this recording, the vocal tracks of which were made during summer 2001 at Tune-of-the-Century Music studios in Palm Harbor, Florida, with original musical tracks from Jerusalem and New York. The album was produced by Bill Mason and edited, mixed, and mastered by Joy Katzen-Guthrie.
